Hatteras Girl by Alice J. Wisler

Hatteras Girl was my first encounter with author Alice J. Wisler. The story is about a single woman named Jackie and her desire to own a bed and breakfast in her sleepy little town.  To pay the bills and fill her time, Jackie is journalist and helps her childhood friend out after a tragic loss.  Jackie blindly chases her dreams while her family around her try to create other dreams for her that lead to interesting tales within this story.
The story to me seemed a little slow and at times a bit too depressing.  It did have its quirky moments and was well written.  Overall the author managed to keep my interest peaked enough that I wanted to learn the outcome.  While faith and Christian values are obvious in this story it is not so overwhelming that it would turn anyone off.
So while this story was not a griping page turner, it is a nice story that can be considered uplifting and even touching at times.

Several reviews coming up...

I know it has been forever.  I'm not sure where the summer went.  Chasing after my two year old and 1st trimester exhaustion might have had something to do with it.  Now we are at the halfway point and it's holidays but I have finished one book for Thomas Nelson and the review is in the works.

Also, I finally received my first invitation from Bethany House to review.  Three books arrived on my doorstep last week and I can hardly wait to read them.

Stay tuned.

Dad's Bible The Father's Plan [Book Review]

I choose to review the Dad’s Bible so that I could pass it along to my husband for Father’s Day. We are first-time parents and navigating parenthood has introduced all new chaos into our lives and I thought that a Bible directed toward dad’s would be a great addition to our collection of study bibles.

This bible can be used as one’s daily bible or a study bible. It is a New Century Version (NCV) and fairly easy to understand. There are small devotionals throughout the bible that are great for directing dad’s and the index in the back is awesome for directing someone to helpful scriptures based on topics. There is a great Q & A section in it with questions we probably all have asked at one time. The bible itself is hardback which my husband actually prefers leather but for a reference bible it would be a great addition to anyone’s collection. The print is on the small side so if the person you are considering this for needs a larger print edition, this is not it.

Never Let You Go By Erin Healy [Book Review]

Seven years ago, Lexi Solomon’s life fell apart. The murder of her sister destroyed her family and then her husband disappeared leaving her to care for their daughter, Molly. As Lexi struggles to rebuild her life, things once again start to fall apart. Her husband suddenly reappears and shows and interest in their daughter, her sister’s murderer is up for parole and an old acquaintance reappears threatening everything Lexi holds dear.

I love suspense novels but found this one to be a little slow starting and only slightly picked up. It is an easy read but not entirely captivating. The shift between heaven and earth seemed a little more in your face than I would have liked. The cast of characters are well defined as the good and the evil and the plot quickly become evident. This story did not keep me guessing until the end. Instead I had it figured out before I was halfway through and only finished to see if it played out the way I had guessed.

This is a well-written novel, the story just wasn’t for me.
